Obituary
Mr. Robert Leon Hardesty, Greenwood, passed away on the morning of Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was 93. Bob was born August 19, 1930 in Indianapolis, a son of the late Vactor and Lillian G. (Thompson) Hardesty.
Bob was a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Indianapolis. He retired as a meter reader from Citizens Gas and Coke Utility in 1996 after 26 years of service.
Bob was a US Army Veteran. He served in the Korean War from 1951 thru 1953. He saw action at Heartbreak Ridge. He loved reminiscing with his family about his buddies and their exploits while on active duty. His wife gave birth to their first born child while he was away. She was three months old before she met her father.
Bob loved fishing and was a member of the Indiana Lunker Hunters. He won several awards for his big catches. He also enjoyed bowling and was a life-long fan of IU Hoosiers basketball. He always could be seen wearing his IU hat.
He was fond of fishing with his grandson (always looking for that big one) and he looked forward to those weekend sleepovers with his two granddaughters. Bob was a family man and cherished family gatherings.
Bob is survived by his children, Laura (Marvin) Braun, Lisa (Wayne) Saunders, Gina (Mike) Perry; his grandchildren, Jessica (Mike Clay) Hudson, Julie (Jason) Rush, Robbie (Ashlyn Oder) Perry; his great grandchildren, Madison (Austin) Gibbs, Brooklyn Hudson, Lilly Hudson as well as his great-great-granddaughter, Elena Gibbs.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his loving wife of 46 years, Patty L (Harper) Hardesty and his brothers, Vactor Hardesty and Richard Hardesty.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Monday, March 4, 2024 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating.
He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 5:00 pm, Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the funeral home.
