Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard “Dick” James Colón. Dick passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on March 23, 2024. Born into humble beginnings in Miami, Florida, on April 3,1943 as one of six children, Dick overcame the trials of his early years, including survival of the awful hardships at the Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys in Marianna, Florida.

In 1969, he married his beloved wife, Julie Colón, embarking on a remarkable journey of unwavering devotion that spanned over five decades. Together, they created a beautiful family that includes six children, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Dick and Julie shared a life filled with love and cherished memories, and created a bond that endured the test of time. Dick was the proud patriarch and strong tower of his family.

As a man of extraordinary resilience, strength and determination, Dick transcended his circumstances in Florida, journeyed to Maryland, joined the IBEW Local Union 24 and forged a path as an electrician. In 1983, with sheer grit and entrepreneurial vision, Dick became the owner of Mace Electric Company, where he transformed the struggling enterprise into a thriving, multi-million-dollar business. His passion for his craft, commitment to hard work, and vision for his life and business were driving forces behind the success of his company, earning him respect and admiration throughout the industry.

Dick leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, resilience, and success. Far beyond his professional accomplishments, he will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his unmatched work ethic, and his willingness to help those in need. His quick wit, humor, and poetic word choice will always be a source of laughter and comfort.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, six devoted children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, sister, and a host of cherished family members and friends whose lives he touched in countless ways. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit will live on. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.

A viewing to honor Dick’s life will take place at Eline Funeral in Reisterstown, Maryland, on Saturday evening 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friends, family, and all who knew him are invited to come pay their respects and share cherished memories. Dick will then return home to Miami, Florida, where a funeral service will be held to celebrate his life. He will be laid to rest beside his mother, a final resting place that brings solace and eternal connection.
