Richard Carl “ Johnny” Blake, Sr.

Born on September 19th, 1928 in Klamath, California and died of natural causes at home in Crescent City, California on March 6, 2021, at the age of 92.

Johnny was a member of the Yurok Tribe and the Respected Elder of the large Blake Family.
He was a lifelong member of the logging community in Del Norte County, retiring as a tree faller from the Miller-Rellim Company and former owner of the Redwood Country Chain Saw Shop.

After he retired, he devoted his remaining years to the vision, development, and maintenance of the Mokie Blake Memorial Family Campground, providing all the funding and labor to accomplish it. Johnny devotedly believed in the importance in fostering family relationships, and he provided a beautiful campground for his large extended Blake Family to enjoy and gather together.

Johnny is survived by “his kids”: Cynthia Blake Williamson (Bruce); Richard Blake, Jr (Kristen); Terri Blake Rivera (Rick); and Dorothy Blake Fry (Mark).

Grandpa Johnny is survived by twelve Grandchildren : Laney Tate Ashley; Glenn Thompson, Jr.; Tara Thompson Quinones (Kenny); Brian Williamson; Brooke Williamson Parker; Tyler Fry; Tana Williamson; Hailey Blake; Dustin Kelley; Harmani Blake; Brandon Rivera; and Jeanette Rivera. And nine Great-Grandchildren: Anthony West; Melissa Garcia; Alyssa Ashley; Aaden Thompson; Kiera Ashley; Tiara Quinones; Rylee Williamson; Hayden Parker; and Ashtyn Parker.

He also leaves behind his Sister, Jeanette Blake Nesbitt; Sister-in-law, Betty Safford Jackson; Nieces: Dorothea Nesbitt; Patricia Nesbitt Adams (Harry); and Lori Nesbitt.

Also survived by his lifelong cousin/friends, Ora Owen Collins and Albert “Buster” Owen;, adopted son/friend, Albert Jasso, friend, Robert Presler, and his large Blake family, many cousins, and nieces and nephews who still call him Uncle Johnny, from his former marriage.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Warren “Mokie” Blake. His parents, Warren Blake, Sr. and Catherine Stevens Blake. His sister, Ethel Blake and his brothers, Warren “Sy” Blake, Jr., Roy Blake, and Earl Blake.

Rest now, Dad, your job is done, you raised strong and good people, who will continue your work. Know that you always provided us with love, the gift of your time, camping experiences, and so many other wonderful memories of our time with you. We will always miss you.
