Phyllis Anita Roberts

July 24th, 1936 - December 19th, 2024

Obituary

Longtime Boring resident, Phyllis Roberts died peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Gresham.  She was 88.

Phyllis Anita Roberts was born on July 24, 1936, in Manchester, Kansas to George & Lucy Dahlhammer.  She attended East Gresham Grade School and graduated from Gresham High School in 1954.

On June 30, 1955, Phyllis married Robert Howland.  Robert was drafted in the Army and they spent 2 years in Germany.  While overseas they traveled throughout Europe during his leave.  They returned to Oregon and started a family welcoming their only son, Scott, in 1963.  They later divorced in 1972.

Phyllis had a longtime career as a dental assistant serving patients with Dr. William Stone in Gresham, Oregon for 42 years.

She was raised to be independent and was not afraid to take on challenges or new adventures.  For several years Phyllis belonged to the “Caveman Caravan” a camping club which would camp rain-or-shine once a month at a member chosen destination somewhere in Oregon or Washington.  Phyllis also snow skied for several years at Timberline Lodge.

On August 26, 1975, Phyllis married Gary Roberts.  They made their home in the Sandy area where they finished raising their blended family.  In the mid 1990’s they moved to the Boring area.

Phyllis and Gary were members of the Route 26 Cruisers and enjoyed attending car shows.  They looked forward to attending Cruise Oregon annually.  Phyllis had a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on life.  She had a contagious smile and loved to laugh.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Gary Roberts and her sister Delores Blanchard.  She is survived by her son Scott Howland and wife Nannette, stepdaughter Cindy Perdew; stepson Craig & wife Heather Roberts; grandchildren, Annika Howland, Mathew Stubbs and wife Stacey, David “Ethan” Stubbs, Mallory Wilson, Maegan Wilson; and 4 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held later in the Spring 2025.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Mt. Hood Hospice or the Sandy Kiwanis.
