Obituary
Miriam O. Confer, 87, of Houserville, was called home on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
She was born February 4,1937 in Birmingham, PA, a daughter to Carl D. and Margaret E. Stewart Root. On January 21,1956, in Birmingham, PA she married Clyde W. Confer who preceded her in death on October 29, 1997.
Miriam had a strong unwavering faith in God. She was a member of The Houserville United Methodist Church where she was very active for many years. She was a 1955 graduate of Tyrone Area High School. She worked as an aide for the State College Area school district as well as Danks and Bon Ton department stores.
Miriam loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking, collecting cookbooks, sitting on her porch enjoying nature, watching Jeopardy and eating ice cream.
She is survived by her son, Steven W. “Jake” Confer of State College and daughter, Rebecca J. Chambers (Eric) of Snow Shoe; seven grandchildren, Jason, Nicholas, Lindsay (Alex), Eric (Janene), Matthew (Caleigh), Levi (Annie), and Joseph and two great granddaughters, Drew and Cambri.
Miriam was the last of her generation. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by five sisters, Ellen Sims, Caroline Schamris, Lillian Greene, Margaret Miles and Debra Dixon and two brothers Carl and Dewey Root.
A graveside service will be held Monday, March 25, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Houserville United Methodist Cemetery, State College with Pastor Ben Hoover officiating.
