Obituary

Longtime Boring resident, Maxine L Smith, died November 18, 2020. She was 94.

Maxine was born on October 31, 1926 in Colville, Washington to Harvey and Grace (Chartrand) Flohr. She was raised in the Yakima Valley and graduate from Selah High School class of 1944.

Maxine worked in the agriculture industry in the Yakima Valley for 35 years and was a life long hobby farmer. Her love for her flock of sheep was endless and the source of many smiles over the years. Maxine would take any excuse to go out fishing or trekking into the beautiful wilderness of the Pacific Northwest.

Maxine loved to work with children who needed extra attention and was a patient and loving friend to all of the kids with handicaps she helped. This love of helping led her to work at the Yakima Valley Children’s Hospital. In 1991 Maxine moved to Boring, Oregon where she quickly became a beloved member the community and was a devout member of the Sandy Baptist Church. Maxine loved to quilt, crochet and craft whenever she had the spare time.

The last 30 years of her life was spent with her companion and best friend, Dan Smith. Together they traveled all over and shared a love of animals. They were especially happy to get to visit with any of their grandchildren. No one was ever a stranger and they were always ready to share their love of life.

Maxine is survived by her three children; daughter Linda and Steve Tiffany of Eagle Creek, OR. Son Charles and Mardi Foster of Gleed, WA. and James and Donna Foster of Naches, WA. Along with twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial for Dan and Maxine will be held in March of 2021.
