Obituary
Marvin Lyle Richards Sr. was born on January 23, 1957, in Crescent City, Ca to Allen and Darlene Richards. After a courageous battle, Marvin passed at his home in Smith River, Ca on June 9, 2022, with loved ones by his side.
He was a member of the Smith River Rancheria, Tolowa tribe in which he had the honor of serving on the Tribal council for 6 years while aspiring to effect positive change for his Elders and the tribe as a whole.
Marvin was deeply immersed in his cultural roots from dancing, singing, gambling and the gathering of traditional materials for regalia making, foods and other uses. He especially enjoyed spending countless hours with his Elders to hear the stories of their life histories. He equally enjoyed the presence of the younger generation, as to pass on this knowledge.
Being a son of a racecar driver, Marvin had a passion for NASCAR, often sharing these experiences throughout the years with many family and friends. Attending races from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast. He was especially proud that he had the opportunity to meet and shakes hands with the legend Richard Petty.
Marvin enjoyed watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, deer hunting, fishing, bingo, and many other outdoor activities.
He was preceded in death by grandparents; Edward “Goble” and Alice Richards, Fred and Laura Hostler. Parents; Allen and Darlene Richards. Siblings; Brian, Allen, Randall Richards, and Bruce Evans.
Marvin is survived by his spouse of 36 years, Marla Richards. Sons; Allen and Marvin Richards Jr. Siblings; Cherry, Ronald, and Laurene Richards. Grandchildren; Dian, Farrah, Cali & Kenyon Richards. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
