Obituary
Martha Shirley Bennett, 100, of Bellefonte, went home to be with her Lord, January 25, 2024 at Juniper Village - Wellspring. She was born on December 7, 1923 in Reynoldsville, PA to the late Arthur F. and Elva L. (Deemer) O’Donnel. She lived in Port Matilda for many years and later moved to State College. Martha was a 1941 graduate of Reynoldsville High School and went on to study Radiologic Technology in Pittsburgh, PA.
In 1946 she married Charles C. Bennett; they had three children and remained married until his death in 1986. She and her husband owned and operated Bennett's Sky View Restaurant from 1950 to 1965. Upon leaving the restaurant business, Martha worked as an X-Ray technician for Harry D. Lykens, MD in State College.
In 1988 she married Harvey G. Bennett and the couple enjoyed traveling together until his death in 2007. Martha enjoyed bowling, cross stitch, sewing, embroidery, cooking, baking and spending time with family. She was also an avid bird watcher. Martha was an active member of First Baptist Church of Bellefonte.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Charles C. Bennett; her second husband, Harvey G. Bennett and daughter, Patricia L. Bennett. She is survived by her children, Janice E. Davis (Jerry) of Bellefonte, PA and David A. Bennett (Michele) of Newark, DE; 4 grandchildren, Nathan Davis (Candi) of Leland, NC, Stephanie Davis of Wrightsville Beach, NC, Kristen Muller (Matt) of Tequesta, FL and Douglas Bennett of New York, NY. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home (Centre County Memorial Park) 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801, with Pastor Greg Shipe officiating. Entombment will take place at Centre County Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
