Obituary

Estacada resident Margie Funkhouser died Thursday, April 17, 2025 in Clackamas. She was 71 years old.

A celebration of her life will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Estacada Funeral Chapel with a reception to follow at the Estacada Odd Fellows Lodge.

Margaret “Margie” Elizabeth Funkhouser, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was born on July 1, 1953, in Hillsboro, Oregon, to Harry and Mary (Scott) Funkhouser, she was the fifteenth of sixteen children in a lively and loving household.

Margie was raised in Clackamas County and spent her life giving care, kindness, and laughter to others. She worked for many years as a caregiver for adults with disabilities—a role that suited her compassionate and nurturing nature.

To know Margie was to know joy. She was the heart of every gathering and the first to suggest a game of cards or a group puzzle. She was famously competitive at baby and wedding shower games (and frequently the winner), and her gift-giving was as creative and heartfelt as she was. Her love of family shone brightest during the holidays, where she always sported the most festive Christmas hats and accessories, and her beach getaways were treasured times of relaxation and fun.

Known for her playful spirit, Margie had a mischievous streak and was known to enthusiastically join in on the occasional surprise toilet-papering of family members' homes—always with love and laughter. She was the kind of aunt who became a second mom to many, offering comfort, care, and candy to generations of nieces, nephews, and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Margie is survived by her sisters Bonnie Heckel, Mary Hart, Mayetta Loehr, and brothers Larry Funkhouser and Terry Funkhouser, along with countless beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mary Funkhouser; her sisters Lois Peters, Dorys Luff, Linda Dean, and Ruth Lampert; and her brothers Dick, Don, Gordon, Ronnie, Butch (Scott), and Art.

Margie’s laughter, love, and endless generosity left a mark on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
