Obituary
Longtime Estacada resident, LeRoy Layton, died at his home on Thursday, January 4, 2018. He was 87.
A visitation will be on Friday, January 12, 2018, from 2PM - 6PM at Estacada Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Eagle Creek Four Square Church. Private Burial will be at Viola Cemetery.
LeRoy Warren Layton was born March 6, 1930, in Alturas, California to Warren and Norma (Randolph) Layton. At age five, his father died and his family moved to the Viola area in Estacada. He attended Viola Grade School and Graduated from Estacada Union High School. After high school he entered the US Coast Guard he was honorably discharged 3 years later in New Orleans. He moved to Kansas where he worked for a bakery then later for Sherwin Williams Paint Store. On January 15, 1954, he married Mary Ann Ficken in Bison, Kansas. They made their home in Hutchenson, Kansas. He transferred his job at Sherwin Williams to the Portland area where they made their home in the Viola area. He later worked for the US Forest Service and retired in 1985. LeRoy enjoyed working with wood making hope chests for friends and family and making furniture. He was a founding member of the Eagle Creek Four Square Church.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Layton; daughters, Catherine Babbitt-Smith, Cynthia Cessnun; sons, Randy Layton and Joseph Layton; 6 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
