Jose Carlos Bonilla

Obituary

Jose Carlos Bonilla, 75, of Deltona, Florida, passed away on March 16, 2024. He was born in Sensuntepeque, El Salvador on November 5, 1948 to Gonsalo Mendez and Teresa Bonilla.

Jose Carlos Bonilla was a person who would give the shirt off his back to someone. He was always quick to help anyone in need, extremely hardworking, and was always on the move. He was a quiet and calm man, but whenever you needed advice, he was a lending ear and he spoke from the heart. He loved being in nature, and animals of all types even down to the lizards; he would pet skunks, possums, and armadillos, had a pet squirrel once, and he would feed the neighborhood cats and even take care of their wounds. He loved his dog Layla as if she was his own child.

He was an intellectual man and loved discussing philosophical topics and bible stories. He also enjoyed learning English and loved studying workbooks and combing through the dictionary to learn new words. He loved practicing his English and would constantly ask those around him to correct him whenever he spoke or wrote something.

He was a kind man, who loved his wife deeply and truly cared for all his family members and friends. He lived a difficult life, harder than most, but you would never have known, as he was not one to complain. He would just wake up every day, make his coffee, go straight to work and just do his best to be the best provider, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and dog dad he could be.

He is survived by his wife, Lourdes Bonilla; his children, Sonia Bonilla, Rosa Bonilla, Dora Luz Bonilla, Jenny Bonilla, Carlos Bonilla, Oscar Bonilla, Cesar Bonilla, and Noemi Bonilla; his 32 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his loving dog, Layla, and his cat, La Nina.

A visitation for Carlos will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 10:00 - 11:00 am at Lohman Funeral Home - DeLand. The funeral service will begin at 11:00, also at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at DeLand Memorial Gardens.
