Obituary

Longtime Sandy resident, Dr. John Strauss, passed away at a care center in The
Dalles, Oregon, on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the age of 81.

A funeral service with military honors is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday, September
8, 2025, at Estacada Funeral Chapel. Private interment will follow at Willamette National
Cemetery.

John Lehman Strauss was born on April 1, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Hary
and June (Culton) Strauss. His family relocated to Sounderton, PA during his childhood,
where he completed high school. After graduating, John attended The Kings College in
Briarcliff, NY for 4 years where he received his BS in psychology. John joined the US
Army, serving 4 years before being honorably discharged then Philadelphia College of
Bible for 2 years.

He then pursued a career in chiropractic medicine, graduating with a doctorate degree
from Western State Chiropractic College and establishing his practice in the Portland
area, where he worked for most of his professional life.

Throughout his life, John was an avid outdoorsman. He loved traveling across the
United States to ski and enjoyed white water rafting. He was also a musician, playing
guitar and singing.

John is survived by his sister, Sharon Dreese, and his nephew, Dustin Dreese.
