Obituary

John Martin Casovia II was born in Ventura, CA on December 9, 1947, passed away on January 12, 2012 in Crescent City. He was raised in Hayward, CA. John was very proud of his Yugoslavian heritage, he loved his Baba (grandmother) and Jeto (grandfather). He graduated from Mt. Edon High School in 1966. John loved all kinds of sports and excelled in many as a young man before moving on to college. John attending Chabot and Diablo College before starting a carpenters apprentice program and in time was a general contractor and spent a total of 35 years in the carpenters union. John was in charge of several big projects in the Vacaville and Fairfield area.

He was first married in 1970 to Janice Rhodes and moved to Vacaville, CA in 1971. They had three children, Julie, John and Jill who are married and have children. John has seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was divorced in 1988 and during that time of his life he moved to Isleton, CA where he met Vickie Neilson in 1992 and later married in 1995. They lived in Iseton for 14 years before he left his carpenters work because of a serious injury to his back. In 2002, John & Vicki retired in Crescent City.

John s favorite pass time was fishing. He loved fishing the delta, the ocean and the Smith River. Hunting was another great pass time with family & old friends camping and enjoying a hot campfire at Deer Camp located in Plumus County, CA. John also loved oldies music & old cars, his favorite was his 1950 blue Hudson.

Nothing brought more joy though, than having his kids home & their friends from the neighborhood stopping by after school. He loved being a mentor to many of these kids and teaching them how to fish or to become a construction worker. Having many children to their Crescent City home was also a joy to him and these children would call him grandpa, as he mentored them as well before his health started to fail.

John loved nature and has always had a strong faith in God and believed that out in nature is one of the best places to talk to God. He was baptized into Jesus Christ in 2008. John has said good-bye to all his family and friends and was at peace with God and man before leaving this place to go with Jesus to meet his Father, God.

Memorial services will be held at the Church of Christ, 9th & E Street, Crescent City on Tuesday, January 17th at 1:00 P.M.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wiers Mortuary Chapel.
