Obituary
JoAnn Kilgore, age 93, of Boaz, formerly Hokes Bluff and Gadsden, passed away on April 14th, 2024. A graveside service will be at Crestwood cemetery on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 at 11 a.m. James Wallace and David Cofield will officiate the service.
Mrs. Kilgore will be remembered for being a kind Christian lady, most recently a member of 1st Baptist of Boaz. Formerly East Gadsden Baptist, Emmanuel Baptist of Hokes Bluff, Goodyear Heights Baptist. Her love of fitness, she always walked several miles per day and swam religiously at the hospital therapy pool. She was an accomplished artist, and drawing old home places were her favorite. She graduated from Gadsden High School in 1948 and later raised her family in Hokes Bluff. She later took classes at Gadsden State and Snead State colleges, where she took real estate and art. She loved all things nautical, especially sea turtles. She has always been a bird watcher, and unfortunately so was Lynne’s cat. She was a loving wife, mother and friend and will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by her parents James and Martha Stanford; sisters Elizabeth Stanford Clark, Catherine Stanford Hathaway; brother James “Sonny” Stanford Jr. who was killed in the USS Bennington while serving his country as a U.S. Marine
Survived by daughter Lynne Kilgore, and numerous nieces and nephews; grandsons Daniel (Jessica), Cary (Lauren), Allen (Ashleigh), and 8 great grandchildren
