Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt, and friend Irene
Talarico, who passed away unexpectedly on January 25, 2024, at Advent Hospital.
Born to Irene and Frank Talarico on December 18, 1955, Irene was a cherished beacon of kindness and
care throughout her life. Irene’s life was one of service and love, beginning with her education at
Fredonia College receiving her Bachelor of Science in mathematics. She continued her education
receiving her Master of Science in education, Bachelor of Science in nursing, Master of Science in Clinical
Nurse Specialist, Post Masters Family Nurse Practitioner and most recently her Doctor of Nursing. Her
career touched the lives of countless individuals with her compassion and dedication. Irene recently
accepted a job at the VA where she was honored to be a part of those who served our country.
Irene was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army with 23 years of service, retiring in December 2016. Irene
was deployed twice into battle, and during her second tour Irene was given the duty of Army Flight
Nurse where she was sent into battle by helicopter to assist in transporting wounded soldiers to safety.
Irene was part of the Warrior Transition Team appointed by the Chief Nurse of the United Staes Army
Medical Command following deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Predeceased by her parents Frank and Irene Talarico, sister Margaret Mary, and brother Frank, Irene’s
memory will be honored and kept alive by her surviving sisters Barbara, Denise (Ray), nephews and
nieces Michael, Matthew (Shelly) and Nicole, great nieces and nephew Brielle, Miranda, Brinley and
Ethan, and a large extended family. Irene Talarico will be remembered as a loving sister, aunt, and friend. Her spirit of generosity and care
will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her life.
