In Loving Memory of

Hortence "Susie" Henry

February 6th, 1920 - March 25th, 2024

Obituary

Susie Henry, at the blessed age of 99, completed successfully her work on Earth and opened her eyes unto Heaven on March 25,2024. Susie was born on February 6, 1925, the middle child of Frank and Myrtle Driver, on Sand Mountain, Alabama, sister to Gail Jones and Thomas H. Driver, all of whom have passed on to Heaven before her. She was raised on Sand Mountain and married her sweetheart, Odes Frank Henry, in 1941, at the age of 16. Susie lived most of her adult life in East Gadsden, Alabama. She had one child, a son, Eugene Frank Henry (wife, Donna) who was the treasure of her heart. She worked many years as a clerk at Snellgrove Drugstore, where she enjoyed preparing fountain drinks and selling school books to all those who knew her. Many years later after her retirement, she worked in the nursery at Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Her ministry with children was her greatest passion. She was a member of East Gadsden Baptist and attended there for over 40 years. She enjoyed perfect attendance there until one year she was in the hospital for a minor surgery. The Sunday School class co leader brought the entire class of two and three year olds to her hospital room so they could have Sunday School there. Susie received her first grandchild, Emily Elise Henry Williamson (husband, Emery) in November 1980. She later received her other grandchild, Amy Snow Wortz (husband, Curtis) and her great grandson, Drake Russell Wortz on February 7, 2023. Susie and her beloved husband, Odes, traveled many years on missionary trips all over the states with East Gadsden Baptist Church, preparing and providing Sunday School for the children who never had the opportunity before. Susie once told Emily, her granddaughter, she wanted her to help her to reach the age of 100. We believe that since she barely missed reaching her goal, that Jesus, whom she never once stopped talking about, wanted her to spend that special birthday in Heaven, in His glorious place, to celebrate all the rewards He has prepared for her life of love, loyalty and faithfulness, We only wish we could see the awe and wonder in her eyes and the beautiful smile upon her face when she sees Jesus for the first time. Susie will be so tenderly missed by her only child and beloved son, Eugene, who hardly missed a day going to see her and care for her needs. Besides him and her other immediate family, she has several precious nieces and many cherished friends who will always remember her. Her memorial service will be on March 28,2024 at 1 pm at Crestwood Memorial Chapel, with the visitation being at 12 pm for one hour prior to the service. The family would like to give special thanks to all those at Serenity Living on Goldenrod Avenue for their special care and attention. The family requests any donations be made to East Gadsden Baptist Church Children's Department. Proverbs 31:26 "She is clothed with strength and dignity. She can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
