Obituary
Gloria Pat Durant Jones Marvin, a woman of faith, adventure, and profound love for her family and friends, passed away peacefully of natural causes in Crescent City, California. Born on September 5, 1934, in Lawton, Oklahoma, Gloria was the beloved daughter of Albert Wayne Durant and Pearl Bell (Williams) Durant. Gloria spent her life living in a variety of places Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and California; with 50 of those years in Crescent City.
Gloria was a woman of many talents and interests, most of which revolved around the outdoors and her family. A skilled hunter and angler, she also cherished crabbing, gardening, and practicing her aim in Muzzleloader shooting. She found joy in square dancing and was an avid reader, often engrossed in Bible study. Her love for cooking was an extension of her care for others, and she relished in the opportunity to bring her family and friends together around a meal. She loved music, sewing and crafts, live entertainment, and was an avid swimmer. Mrs. Marvin has always been proud of her heritage, researching the history, and embracing the ideals. She was a member of the Crescent City Foursquare Church, a Black Powder Group, and Square Dance Group.
Gloria's professional life was marked by her dedication and hard work. She held various roles as a housekeeper, caregiver, and property manager. She brought the same level of commitment and love to her work as she did to every other aspect of her life.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, Otis Dean Jones and Lesley (Bud) Marvin; siblings, Winona Partain, Delores Taylor, and Wayne Durant; and grandson, Walter Jones Jr. Gloria's memory will be cherished by her surviving family members, including her daughter, Quanna Sue Jones Embree; son, Walter Dean Jones; stepson, Doug Marvin; grandsons, Jeremy Embree, Jesse Marvin, and Kevin Marvin; granddaughters, Sommer Barwick and Deanna Jones; great-grandsons, Elijah Embree, Ezra Embree, and Connor Barwick; and great-granddaughters, Ella Embree, Parker Barwick, and Ayla Marvin. Adding to the family, Gloria has roughly 65 nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews.
Gloria lived her life with passion and purpose, constantly seeking adventures and opportunities to deepen her faith. Her unwavering love for her family and friends was a testament to her generous heart and spirit. She was a beacon of strength and resilience, always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. This loving spirit was evident in every role she held – as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
In remembering Gloria, we honor a life well-lived. Her legacy of love, faith, and adventure continues to inspire and guide her loved ones. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life serves as a beautiful reminder of the importance of family, the joy of adventure, and the power of faith. May Gloria Pat Durant Jones Marvin rest in peace, knowing she lived a life filled with love and purpose.
