Obituary
Our beloved father, Glenn Sterling Felix, went home to his Father in Heaven and the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 8, 2022. He was 95 years old. He will be sorely missed and remembered well by those who knew him.
Glenn was born to Kenneth and Marjorie (Sterling) Felix in Long Beach, California, on August 15, 1927. He had two younger brothers, Donald and Seymour Felix. A quiet person, Glenn was a man with a subtle sense of humor who had no patience with nonsense, but he was also a man with a heart of gold. Raised during the depression, he knew the value of hard work and the challenges of sacrifice. He served his country first as a Yeoman Third Class in the US Navy in WWII—having enlisted at the age of 17—and second, acting as head of Quality Control in the department that tested rocket and jet engines for the Edwards Air Force Base Test Center. Glenn received awards for his excellent performance and for designing inventions for the program. When he was older and able to talk about it, he finally admitted he worked with some aspects of the Space Shuttle program and designed essential parts for the Apollo 13.
Glenn received his bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering at Fresno State College, Fresno, California, and immediately married his sweetheart, Florence Maxine Hubbs, on September 29, 1951. They had two children, Susan and Paul. They were happily married for 64 years, until Maxine went to meet her maker on December 23, 2015.
After spending thirty-two years in Lancaster’s high desert community, Glenn took Maxine to the place of her dreams, Crescent City, CA, the home of the mighty redwood forest and the even mightier Pacific Ocean. Glenn lived here for thirty-nine years.Glenn’s sense of humor came into play when he declared that the secret to such a long life was to “just keep on breathing.” He outlived both parents, his brothers, his cousins, his wife, and as far as he knew, all of his friends. He loved the simple things in life, rarely wandering far from home or needing extravagant entertainment. His hobbies were reading good books, loving cars, enjoying his favorite television shows, and eating good foods, especially vanilla ice cream, carrot cake, and blueberry muffins.
Glenn’s passing was sudden but not unexpected. He often said that the challenges of aging and the scars of mortality “weren’t for wusses.” Arthritis, heart disease and emphysema took their toll. He wasn’t eager to leave this life, but he looked forward to the release from the physical pains of mortality and joining Maxine.
Glenn and Maxine loved to study the Bible together and were active in the Church of Christ. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Susan Felix Tietjen (Richard Tietjen) and Paul Felix (Jeanelle Scott Felix). He had eleven grandchildren: Rachelle Herle, Ryan Herle, Tera Herle Schneider, Shillawna Herle Ruffner, Audra Herle Blockovich, Nathan Tietjen, Jessica Tietjen Cole, Brent Davidson, Brian Tiffany, Jessica Appel, and Steven Chevrie. Glenn also had 24 beautiful great-grandchildren.
Per his wishes, Glenn's cremated remains will be scattered at sea.
