Obituary
Sandy resident Gerald Raymond Grassl died Tuesday, October 19th. He was 94.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00, November 11, 2021, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 18090 S.E. Langensand Road. Burial will follow at Cliffside Cemetery.
Gerald was born May 21, 1927, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, to George and Edith (Kalbow) Grassl. He was raised in Wisconsin and Minnesota, where he received his education. In 1942, the family moved to Oregon and Gerald worked with his family in a factory building life floats for the Navy during World War II.
In 1944, Gerald moved to his permanent home on a farm near Sandy. In 1957 he began his career at the Sandy Elementary School District where he worked for 32 years.
Gerald married Kathleen Vandehey on January 31, 1959. Together they raised their six children. Gerald enjoyed camping, hiking, the beach, playing cards and most importantly spending time on the farm with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; His children, Bernard Grassl (Alice) of Silverton, Martin Grassl (Margaret) of Sandy, Joseph Grassl (Susie) of Sandy, George Grassl (Cathy) of Sandy; Gerald “Bud” Grassl (Anita) of Sandy and Patricia Christie (Matt) of Sandy; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
