Obituary
Lifetime Portland, Oregon resident, George Sotir Georgioff, was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, June 17, 2018. He died in a Portland hospital after a brief illness at the age of 92.
A celebration of George’s life will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018, 2:00PM, at Central Bible Church, located at 8815 NE Glisan, Portland. A private family graveside service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery.
George Sotir Georgioff was born in Portland December 7, 1925, to Sotir and Tanaska (Petrova) Georgioff. He was raised in Portland, and after high school enlisted in the US Navy Seabees where he served in the Pacific during WWII. He was skilled and knowledgeable at building and construction. George was honorably discharged in April of 1946. After WWII, George returned to Portland, built a house, and married Alice Brinks in Portland on June 5, 1953. He was a student of the Bible and enjoyed studying the Word of God. He was both an educator and an avid learner, obtaining two master’s degrees. George was a teacher and also a junior high administrator for 32 years with the Portland Public Schools.
George and his wife, Alice, were actively involved with their Christian faith. He enjoyed serving on the board at Central Bible Church, volunteering untold hours working at Trout Creek Bible Camp, Cannon Beach Christian Conference Center, with Gideons International, and providing weekly church services for 25 years at a Portland convalescent center.
Survivors include one brother, Ted Georgioff; George’s six children; Denise Georgioff, Diane (Mark) Trotter, Karen (Charlie) Rice, Jim (Elizabeth) Georgioff, Paul Georgioff, Mark (Robin) Georgioff; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Alice.
