Obituary

Gary “Pop” Wayne Powell Sr., Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024. He was 83 years old. Gary was born in Henderson, KY to his parents Roy and Margaret Powell. He graduated from Wood High School. Gary married his wife, Marilyn (Hager), on December 2, 1961, and together they shared 63 years of marriage.
Gary worked as a Truck Driver for Teamsters and retired in 2002 after 33 years of service. Gary enjoyed going golfing and bowling with his friends and family. Gary was an avid fisherman who enjoyed several fishing trips throughout his life. Gary liked to listen to country music alongside his beloved wife. Family meant everything to Gary; he loved reunions, get togethers and holidays. Gary’s goofy personality and family-oriented nature will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.
Gary is survived by his wife, Marilyn Powell; his children, Joyce (Jim) Jones, Penny (Tim) Doss, Lisa (Ed) Woods, and Gary (Terry) Powell Jr.; his grandchildren, Corey Woods, Justin Jones, Jessica Jones, Brittney Holcomb, Casey Marlin, Quintin Powell, Madeline Powell, Peyton Powell,  and Javan Doss; his 10 great grandchildren; his siblings, Mike Powell and Doris Vickers.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harvey Powell.
A visitation for Gary will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 3:00 pm.
