Obituary
Floyd Burt Madewell, 85, passed away on May 2, 2022 in Daytona Beach, Florida. A gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Providence Church, 1151 W Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM. Burt was born in Nashville, TN in 1936 and lived in Mooresville, TN. When he was 3 years old, his family moved to Port Orange, FL. He remained there until 1992, at which time he moved to Bunnell FL, staying there for the rest of his life. Burt graduated Mainland High School in 1954. He retired from FPL after 37.5 years of service, having started as a laborer, then working his way up through the ranks as a lineman, troubleshooter, dispatcher and finally supervisor. After retirement, he kept busy working part-time security at Daytona International Speedway for more than 30 yrs. Burt was very active in the Port Orange community serving as a volunteer fireman, city councilman, little league baseball and football coach. He also helped establish Gant Field on Herbert St. He was an avid dog hunter, and loved going to the hunting camp in Steinhatchee, FL to hunt with Mr. Herman, Scott, Kyle, and Phil. Burt enjoyed all types of water activities including fishing, shrimping and oystering, and waterskiing in his younger days. He loved spending time with his family and friends, attending or watching baseball or football games especially watching the Florida Gators. Burt liked to travel, making two trips to Hawaii and many trips to the mountains and Florida Keys with family and friends. He was beloved by all who knew him. As his older son, Burt, Jr. summed it up, “Daddy loved his family dearly and was the best dad, papa, & paw paw anyone could ever have.” Burt is preceded in death by his parents Floyd R and Eliza Madewell; wife Marlene Spake Madewell; daughter Kathy Denise Madewell. He is survived by his 2 sons Floyd Burt Madewell Jr (Terri), Darryl Reavis Madewell (Jennifer); grandchildren Amber A. Deanzo (Alex), Cameron A. Madewell (Dana), Kalynn M. Madewell; 2 great-grandchildren; and his loving sister Eliza “Tedder” Stone (Roger). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Burt’s name to the charity of your choice.
