Obituary
Eileen M. ‘Beanie’ Springer, age 86, of State College, passed away on March 25, 2024. Born April 14, 1937, in Uniontown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Witt) Hurley. On February 11, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart the late Don L. Springer who passed away July 5, 2016. Eileen graduated from Uniontown High School in 1955 where she was a cheerleader and the prom queen. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings. She was a wonderfully supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
Eileen is survived by her five children: Jeff (Jill), Patrick, and Shawn, all of State College, Susan Schrock, of Raleigh, N.C., Chris (Deb) of Duncansville, and Sue Springer of Marietta, PA; seven grandchildren, Khaki Ruggerio (Ryan), Beth Adair, Taylor Farley (Mike), Stephen (Brooke), Dana, Kaleb, and Anna Springer; and five great grandchildren, Catie and Will Ruggerio, Mia and Mason Springer, and Faye Farley.
Eileen moved with her family from Uniontown to State College in 1983 and began her career with Penn State working part-time at The Bookstore and eventually moved into a full-time role in the purchasing department where she worked for over twenty years. She made many close friends while working at the University and those friendships survived until her passing. During her retirement she worked at the Penn State golf course with her husband and sons.
Eileen was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in State College since 1983 and faithfully attended services. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards with her friends, and reading. She also enjoyed attending sporting events and watching sports on television, especially her favorite teams the Steelers, the Penguins, the Pirates, and most importantly Penn State football.
Friends will be received from 5:00pm - 7:00pm on Friday, April 5, 2024 and 11:00am – 1:00pm on Saturday April 6, 2024 at the Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home 1034 Benner Pike State College, PA. A prayer service will be held during the Saturday viewing. Interment will take place at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA. A reception for family and friends will be held at the 19th Hole Pavilion at the Penn State Golf Course located at 1523 W. College Ave, State College, PA.
