Obituary

Editha Lucille Rutledge ("Eddy")

Editha Lucille Rutledge, lovingly known as "Eddy," passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 83.

Born on February 28, 1943, to Franklin and Marian Cook, Eddy spent her early years in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from high school, she pursued a career as a hairdresser, where her caring nature and warm spirit touched the lives of many. During this time, she met the love of her life, Phillip Rutledge. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and devotion, raising their two sons, Allen and Dennis.

Eddy later worked as a seamstress for Sealy Mattress Company, where her dedication, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic were appreciated throughout her career until retirement. Her talent for creating beautiful things extended far beyond her profession. An accomplished quilter, she lovingly stitched countless quilts and generously donated many of them to the Pregnancy Resource Center, sharing comfort and care with families she would never meet.

Eddy found joy in life's simple pleasures. She took great pride in the flowers that brightened her front porch and loved spending time with family during campouts and gatherings. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting by her front window watching the hummingbirds come and go, finding peace and happiness in their graceful visits. These quiet moments reflected the gentle spirit and appreciation for life's everyday blessings that she carried with her throughout her life.

Family was at the center of everything Eddy did. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, creativity, and unwavering love for those around her. Whether through a handmade quilt, a family camping trip, or a warm smile and caring heart, she had a special gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and loved.

Eddy was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Allen and Dennis. She is survived by her devoted husband, Phillip Rutledge; her brothers, Joe and George; her sister, Pat; and several nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

Though her absence leaves a space that can never be filled, the love she shared, the memories she created, and the lives she touched will remain a lasting part of all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the beauty she created, the family she loved, and the kindness she gave so generously throughout her life.

Whenever a hummingbird pauses at a flower or appears outside a window, those who loved Eddy will be reminded of her gentle spirit and the joy she found in life's simple blessings.
