Obituary
Doris Marie Coin Ensley went to be with the Lord on June 10, 2024 at the age of 96. Doris Ensley was born May 1, 1928, in Gadsden, Alabama, where she lived most of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Willie Holloway Coin, her husband, Leonard Frank Ensley, her brother, Sam Coin, her sisters, Trixie Coin Gattis, Louise Coin Bradford, and Minnie Coin Cornutt. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Ensley Malone (husband Fred) of Clinton, Louisiana, by 3 grandchildren—Joanna Malone Jones (husband Todd), Joshua Malone (wife Leslie), and Jonathan Malone (wife Jaimie), by 6 great-grandchildren—Grace Jones, Vincent Malone, Jake Malone, Emma Malone, Lila Malone, and Keira Malone—by many beloved nieces and a nephew and all their families. She was a much loved aunt and has several name-sakes in the family!
Doris always sought to achieve excellence in everything she undertook, beginning in High School by being Salutatorian of her Emma Samson High School 1946 graduating class. She worked at Fort McClellan, Alabama for 25 years, spending the last 9 years there as a Supervisor in Military Payroll. She later worked the next ten years in Finance and Accounting at Fort Stewart, GA, Bremerhaven, Germany, and Red Stone Arsenal Missile Command, Huntsville, AL. After retiring again from Government work, she gained her Real Estate license and Insurance license. Then in 2002 she sacrificially walked away from her life in Gadsden for 14 months to lovingly care for her daughter in Louisiana who was diagnosed with cancer.
Doris was a faithful member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Gadsden for many years. She dearly loved Sunday worship there, her Sunday School class, and Wednesday night Supper and Bible Study! She was so sad to leave there in 2017 when for her own health reasons she had to move to Clinton, Louisiana with her daughter. While in Clinton she experienced the love and care of the members at First Baptist Church.
She often recounted her fond memories of her childhood friends and playing under Noccalula Falls as a child. She only painted one picture and it is of Noccalula Falls and is lovely! She will be greatly missed.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Grace Nursing Home Memory Care Unit, Slaughter, LA, and Hospice of Baton Rouge, who cheerfully and patiently cared for her.
Funeral services will be held at Crestwood Funeral Home on June 15, 2024, with visitation from 1:30-2:00 p.m. with service at 2:00 p.m. Dr. Fred A. Malone will be officiating. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery following.
Also many thanks to Charlet Funeral Home in Louisiana and Crestwood Funeral Home in Gadsden for their kindness and helpfulness in making many decisions.
