In Loving Memory of

Darryol Anthony De Rego

Obituary

Darryol A. De Rego, 84, of Brightwood, OR, passed away on Wednesday, October 13th at home surrounded by loved ones.

Darryol was born on May 21, 1937, in Honolulu, HI.  After graduating from St. Louis High School in 1955, he went on to receive his Aircraft Mechanic Certificate from Northrop University located in Inglewood, CA.  Darryol served in the National Guard Reserves and worked for Hawaiian Airlines as an aircraft mechanic after receiving his certification from Northrop and again after his 33 years at Hawaiian Tel/GTE Corporation where he was the Station Installation & Maintenance Manager for the entire island of O’ahu, responsible for all residential and single line business phones.

In January of 1958, Darryol married his high school sweetheart Norine M. Seabury, a graduate of Maryknoll High School and shared 64 years of happiness and love together.  During that time, they welcomed three children to the world, Deanne (Val) of Dundee, Laurene (Rupert) of Kaneohe, and David (Karen) of Beaverton, twelve grandchildren, Krista, Jordan, Keri, Kasey, Kimi, Alyssa, Nichole, Kara, Lindsey, Aaron, Madelyn, and John, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

Family was very important to Darryol and Norine and they loved nothing more than gathering around the kitchen table with loved ones “talking story”.  A man who loved the outdoors, Darryol spent what little free time he had in his younger years camping, fishing, and hunting.  After retiring, Darryol and Norine moved from Kaneohe, HI to Brightwood, OR and built their dream home.  During those twenty-eight years, Darryol spent much of his time on his tractor turning their 5 acres into a park like setting, working on his Model 78 V-8 Ford, building everything from bird houses to furniture, making jewelry for his granddaughters, model planes for his grandsons, and cheering his grandchildren on at their numerous sporting events.  Other than his wife and family, Darryol was most proud of finishing the 1986 and 1987 Honolulu Marathons, and holding a US Patent dated April 21, 1987.

Interment will be at Hawaiian Memorial Park after a funeral mass at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kaneohe, HI to be scheduled later.

My love goes to my uncle, Darryol De Rego, to my aunt Norine and my cousins, Deanne, Laurie and David.

I have many great fond memories of my uncle at family gatherings and Christmas Eve/Day at their house in Kane’ohe, Hawai’i.

He will be loved and missed.

Aunty Norine and Family,
I just learned of the passing of dear Uncle Darryol. My deepest condolences. After nearly 29 years of living in Madison, WI, I returned to HI on Nov 3, 2021. I would like to attend Uncle's funeral mass at St. Ann's when it occurs and hope that you will somehow contact me with that information. Be well and God bless you all.
Aloha nui,
Mary Rose Teves
