Obituary

Longtime Estacada resident, Carl Stein, died on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. He was 71. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 2:30 PM, Monday, June 3, 2019 at Willamette National Cemetery. Carl Warren Stein was born March 31, 1948 in Portland, Oregon to Chester and Matilda (Green) Stein. He was raised on the family filbert and berry farm in Damascus. After graduating from Gresham High School in 1966, Carl entered into the U.S. Marine Corp. He served 2 tours in Vietnam as a radio communicator. He was honorably discharged in 1970. On April 29, 1972, he married Gloria Gates in Noti, Oregon. They lived in Damascus where they started their family. In 1977, they moved to Estacada where they have lived since. For most of his working career Carl worked at Owens Illinois. After 36 years, he retired in 2010. Carl enjoyed family time, which included motorcycle riding, horseback riding, fishing, hunting and camping. In his later years his greatest joy were his four granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife Gloria; son, Greg (Carrie) Stein; daughter, Amy Hamilton; sister, Janet Nelson; grandchildren Dayna and Kaylin Hamilton and Sammy and Alex Stein.
