Obituary
Patsy Kaye Vogler Paul, born, February 22, 1943, in Mount Airy, North Carolina passed away, September 14, 2023, in Asheboro, NC among her family.
Patsy is survived by one older brother Ronald Vogler and wife Jane of Surry County and younger Sister, Gayle Vogler Riggs and husband Dennis also of Surry County. Additionally, she is survived by her two sons and their wives: Robert and Cynthia Paul and Christopher and Robin Paul, as well as five grandchildren, William, James, John, Katherine, and Jessica Paul and three great grandchildren, Tristan, Henry and Emerson Paul.
Preceding her in death were her mother, Jessie Vogler and Father, John Vogler; eight siblings (William Early Vogler, Jacqueline Vogler Shelton, Charles Vogler, John Franklin Vogler, Benjamin Vogler, Betty Vogler Houston, Peggy Vogler Sutphin, and Bobby Vogler); and her eldest son Charles Paul.
Patsy was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, the 9th of 11 children. After formative jobs following high school working with Renfro and Mount Airy Furniture, she became a model for young women today who seek to balance successful careers while raising a family. She worked for John S. Clark Construction Co., Inc., leaving to become a successful founding partner of J.G. Coram Construction Company, still in operation today. Later she founded a beloved Deli in Mount Airy called ‘The Grapevine Deli’, which she owned and operated for many years in the late 1980’s, its concept of fresh, wholesome food was ahead of its time. The name was chosen as The “Grapevine” Deli to represent ever important informal communication channels of a small town. It was a successful business venture. Patsy continued her working career, returning to construction with John S. Clark, Co., closing the Deli after changes in business conditions, and eventually retiring from Novant Health in the healthcare industry.
Patsy was raised in the Baptist Church but also had a love for her family’s connection with Old Salem and the Moravian Church. She cherished Old Salem and her family’s role as founding members of the community. She along with her siblings became part of America’s generation seeking to understand why their families had made the great migration to this country. Her retirement years were filled creatively by writing and crocheting everything from small purses, handbags, cellphone holders, toboggans and blankets and pursuing a continued interest in the history of the Holy Land.
A graveside service will be held, Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with Dr. Roger Gilbert officiating. No visitation will be held at the funeral home.
