Obituary

George R. Atwood, 92 of Collinsville, IL passed away July 14, 2022 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

George was the son of the late Eulice G. and Ruby (Wallace) Atwood born December 21, 1929 in Collinsville, IL.

George enlisted in the United States Navy in November of 1950 and served our country for four years.  George worked for Granite City Steel for 37 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents his wife Virgie (Lucas) Atwood, brothers; Elmer G. Atwood and Raymond T. Atwood, and sister Alma Huls.

Survived by his children; Ronald L. (Cheryl) Atwood of Caseyville, IL, Charles E. Atwood of Caseyville, IL, Kenneth H. (Dianna) Atwood of Collinsville, IL, Pamela R. (Tim) Moussette of Collinsville, IL and Tina M. (Barry) Jones Atwood, 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; brother Rev. Ernest A. Atwood of Livingston, IL and sister Dorthy Dillamano of Kentucky, numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.

Visitation will be held at Herr Funeral Homes, 501 West Main Street, Collinsville, on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Funeral service will start at 2:00 p.m., at Herr Funeral Homes, with Barry Jones officiating.  Interment to follow at St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
