Obituary
Mr. Ernest K. “Jack” Flesher, 100, of Uniontown, passed away
on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the Peroni Personal Care Home.
He was born in Uniontown on January 6, 1924 to the late
Cyrus and Mable Bryson Flesher. He was
the ninth child born, with brothers Lloyd, Lester, and Earl, and sisters,
Margaret, Edna, Evelyn, Dorothy and Audrey preceding him in death.
Jack attended Uniontown area schools, and he graduated in
the class of 1942.
He joined the United States Navy in May of 1943 in the V-5
Program. He attended the University of
Pennsylvania, Westminster College, University of North Carolina, and Bunker
Hill Naval Air Station and Pensacola Naval Air Station, graduating as an Ensign
in December of 1944.
Jack came home on leave and married his high school
sweetheart Geraldine Mae Yarris on January 15, 1945. She preceded him in death on December 25,
2012.
On return to duty, as an aircraft carrier torpedo bomber pilot,
he was assigned to sea duty with squadron V.T. 97 and V.T. 42 doing
anti-submarine duty between Florida and Cuba.
On release from duty in October of 1945, he joined his
father-in-law, Charles V. Yarris, in the retail floral trade at the White Swan
Flower Shop. With his father-in-law’s
passing in 1960 he took over as sole proprietor. Jack’s son Charles joined the business in
1974. Jack continued to work in the
business until 2013.
He was active in the Uniontown Community Chest and Boy
Scouts, receiving the Order of the Arrow.
He was a member and past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the
Uniontown Rotary Club, and member and past President of the Reserve Officers
Association, charter and past Commander of the AMVETS Post 103, member of the
V.F.W. Post 47, member of Lafayette Post 51, and Masonic Lodge 228 F. &
A.M.
Jack was a former member and elder of the Third Presbyterian
Church.
He enjoyed working on stained glass and wood lath pictures,
and he was an avid golfer.
Jack is survived by his children, Douglas Flesher and wife
Jane of Hopwood, Charles Flesher and wife Connie of Hudson, FL, Lloyd Flesher
and wife Bonita of Mobile, AL, and Scott Flesher and wife Tammy of Uniontown;
nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited for viewing on Tuesday, July
30 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N.
Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA 15401, and the funeral service there on
Wednesday, July 31 at 12 Noon with Pastor Nick Cook officiating of the Abundant
Life Church in Uniontown.
Interment is in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
