Obituary

Martha Florence Pollen of Vero Beach, passed away on May 6, 2024 from natural causes. She was born in Cornelia Georgia on October 19, 1941 to Felix Harry Freeman and Lorene Virginia West. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard Freeman. She had been a resident of Indian River since 1992, coming from Homestead Florida after hurricane Andrew. She graduated from East Hall County High School in Gainesville Georgia in 1959.

After high school she worked as a hairdresser, and later worked most of her adult life as a veterinary assistant. She retired as a medical assistant at Coral Ridge Hospital in Dade County Florida. She enjoyed animals, working in the yard and flower gardening. She enjoyed the 600 square foot, 3’ deep concrete Koi pond equipped with the a water fall, that she and her husband Howard built with their own hands.

She is survived by her brothers Kenneth and Gary Freeman, and her sisters Bertha Williamson and Vivian Forrester. Michael E. Kiefer, Jr. (Lynn) of Vero Beach and their children Caitlin Davis (Wyatt), Casey Mitten (Justin), Chelsea O’Conner (Ryan), Christin Chapman (Joe), and Jackson Kiefer; and Matt Maurice Kiefer (Cathy) of Orlando and their children Alexander and Jacob. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at Life Connection Church Orlando at 1:30 on May 18 2024,  and at First Methodist Church of Vero Beach on May 25 at 10 AM.  Her private burial will be at the South Florida National Cemetery on 28th. In leu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Methodist Church, attention “Sowing Seeds”, for the startup of the church’s new elementary school.
