Obituary

Janice Gullett Dobson Sandlin, Age 93 of Florence Alabama passed away on December 19, 2023 in Whitwell Tennessee.
Janice was born February 4, 1931 in Bessmer, Alabama, the daughter of W. R. Gullett Sr. and Virginia Power Gullett. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother W. Roy Gullett Jr.,her first Husband J. B. Dobson III, Her late husband Judson Fairfax Sandlin, her father’s late wife Evelyn Rutherford Gullett, brother Robert L. Rutherford, son David Sandlin and sister in law Marjorie Dobson Norton. 
She was a graduate of Deshler high school in Tuscumbia. She received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from UNA and was a retired elementary school teacher. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Florence where she and Doris Butler founded the first day school program at the church. She was a member of the Ferguson Sunday school class, the First United Methodist Church prayer group, and the Shoals Emmaus Community. 
Janice is best known for her strong faith in the Lord and her Love and devotion to her family. 
The funeral will be held on January 9th, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church of Florence, AL.  Reverend Allison Sandlin Liles will be officiating. A luncheon will be provided at 12:00 with visitation at 1:00 in the Atrium and the service at 2:00 in the sanctuary. There will be a graveside service for family to follow. 
She is survived by her one daughter Virginia Dobson Rigsby and her husband Dr. Larry Rigsby of Whitwell, Tennessee; sons Steven Marsh Sandlin (Carol) of Decatur, Alabama, Dr Randall Sandlin (Linda) of Huntsville, Alabama and David Sandlin, deceased ( Karen) of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren Amy Rigsby McGhee, Clay Rigsby, Layne Rigsby, Scott Sandlin, Allison Sandlin Liles, Bonnie Sandlin Rumsey, Peggy Sandlin Lindsley, Mary Katherine Stults, Austin Sandlin and Molly Sandlin; Seventeen great grandchildren; one sister Jane Gullett Weamer of Birmingham, Alabama; one sister-in-law Martha Green Gullett of Tuscumbia; brother-in-law Bert Norton of Florence; many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. 
Pallbearers will be Austin Sandlin, Scott Sandlin, Mike Gullett, Donnie Gullett, Clay Rigsby and Winston McGhee. 
Honorary pallbearers will be Bert Norton, Brad Lynch, H.M. Perritt, Dr John Musgrove, Brian Miller and members of the Ferguson Sunday School class. 
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the First United Methodist Church Day School.
