Obituary
Bob grew up near Rochester, NY on his family’s cherry farm where they raised thoroughbred horses. Bob and his brother John rode and competed in show-jumping. Bob’s personal horse "Showman" was sired by Man O’ War, the legendary racehorse.
Through his teens, Bob attended Manlius Military Academy near Syracuse NY, and after graduating accepted a full football scholarship at Duke University where he graduated with a degree in history. While at Duke he was enrolled in the Army Officer Candidate program. After graduating, he went into the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant where he served in Korea. When Bob returned, he joined a photographic-film processing company near Rochester as the sales manager where he met his future wife, Sandy. When the company was sold to 3M, Bob and Sandy, now a blended family, transferred from Dayton Ohio to Rye New Hampshire and ultimately to St. Paul MN when he was offered a position in Marketing Management at 3M's corporate office. After retiring in 1992 Bob moved to Palm Beach Gardens in the PGA National community.
Through Bob’s retirement he continued to pursue his passion for history by reading and writing about all of the US conflicts in deep detail and assembling them into a catalog he said was for his grandchildren to read. He was an avid golfer and played daily at Ibis and EastPoint until 2021 when he said, “I can’t drive the ball more than 75 yards anymore, I’ll find something else to do.”
Bob was a really decent human being. He loved animals and would never hesitate to stop his car to usher a turtle from the road. He is survived by his daughter Gail Baldwin (Ross), sons Burr Baldwin (Kim), Andrew Murphy (Nancy), Matthew Murphy (Sueann), his grandchildren, Grace, Skyler and Conner, and his former wife, Sandy
