Cecil Lee McShurley

December 20th, 1929 - April 25th, 2022

Obituary

Cecil Lee McShurley "Jake" was a beloved grandfather, father, and husband during his incredible 92 years of life. He passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday, April 25, 2022 at Lynd Place Assisted Living Community.
Cecil was born on December 20, 1929 to Raymond and Violet McShurley in Monroe Township. Following graduation from Cowan High School in 1947, Cecil enlisted in the Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953 and the Army Reserve in 1960.
On May 5th 1951, Cecil married the love of his life, Delois King. Cecil and Delois went on to have two sons, Bruce and Scott, whom they raised on a small farm in Monroe Township.
In 1985, Cecil retired from General Motors with 35 years of service. After retirement Cecil enjoyed traveling with Delois. Some of his favorite destinations were Europe, Hawaii, and the Holy Lands. He also treasured his winters in the south and traveled between Florida, Texas, and Tennessee each year to visit with friends and family.
When Cecil wasn't traveling, he was actively involved in his community, Cecil was a member of Grace Baptist Church and was actively involved in the Caleb's Kin Senior Group. Cecil was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he achieved the Honorary 33rd degree, he was twice past President of the Cowan Lions Club, a member of the East Central Indiana Western Film Club and the Cowan Alumni Breakfast Club, He also volunteered for many years at the Delaware County Fair and the Delaware County Board of Elections. In his later years, Cecil was the go-to chauffeur for many of his "older" friends and family members, to all of their activities. If you happened to catch him at home, he was likely watching a Detroit Tigers baseball game, listening to staticky AM radio or napping in front of the television.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Miller, and a brother, Ray McShurley.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 70 years, Delois; two sons, Bruce McShurley (wife, Cay), Scott McShurley (wife, Cindy); five grandchildren, Heather Davenport (husband, Jamaal), Jon McShurley (wife, Bethany), Stan McShurley (girlfriend, Haylee), Stacy Seefeld (husband, Jason) and Stuart McShurley (girlfriend, Lesli); and six great-grandchildren, Aidan and Tristan McShurley, Clair and Audrey Davenport, and Caroline and Brooks Seefeld; and several nieces and nephews.
