Obituary
On May 6 th , 2022, Carmen Elsa Cintron Lugo DeJesus went home to be with the Lord.
She was 89 years old and was surround by her family at the home of her daughter,
Yvette DeJesus. She passed peacefully after a long and arduous battle with
Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her three children, Abe, Yvette and Diane, eight
grandchildren, Antonio, Giovanni, Ginodavide, Dominick, Justin, Dylan, Luciano and
Jake, eight great-grandchildren and a number of extended family throughout the
United States and Puerto Rico.
Carmen was born in Ponce Puerto Rico on December 25 th , 1932, to Ruperto Cintron
Albertorio and Maria Josefa Hermenia Lugo Aviles. In her professional life, she
enjoyed a career as a bookkeeper until she met and married her lifetime love
Abelardo “Chico” DeJesus. Family was the most important aspect of the young
couple’s life together, so when Carmen and Chico had their first child, Abe, they
agreed that she would set aside her career and focus on raising their quickly growing
family.
Education was of paramount importance to the couple and as a result, their three
children were blessed to be able to attend the University of Miami and pursue their
individual careers. They were abundantly successful in their professional, as well as
personal endeavors. This was due, in no small part, to Carmen’s calculating and goal-driven mentality for her and her husband.
Carmen and Chico ensured that their children had every opportunity afforded them and sacrificed greatly to provide for their
every need.
Carmen cherished each one of her grandchildren. She was also an unforgettable cook and took every opportunity to spoil them
with their favorite meals and sweet treats. often hosting weekly Friday night sleepovers at her Hialeah home. Carmen’s love for
children extended beyond her own immediate family and she quickly became the most popular babysitter for the
neighborhood’s families. All the children she cared for loved Carmen and remembered and visited her long after they grew out
of her loving care.
Carmen was an incredibly kind, compassionate, generous, loving and caring person will forever be missed by those that she
impacted throughout her many days on this earth.
